My Favorite Bras Post Mastectomy
A few days before my prophylactic double mastectomy I cleaned out my bra drawer and got rid of all of my Victoria Secret Very Sexy push up bras. After my surgery I would no longer be allowed to wear bras with underwires built in. Before my mastectomy I wore mostly push up bras to work, bralettes on casual days off, and sports bras for exercising or outdoor activities. I figured some bras may not fit me the same but I decided to keep the sports bras and bralettes in the hopes that they would still fit me post mastectomy.
Once I settled into my new foobs a couple months after my implant exchange surgery with fat grafting I started shopping online for new comfortable bras. As with most of the world I found myself home a lot more in 2020 and I wanted a bra that I could lounge in, run errands in and wear all day long. I also wanted a more sexy option to wear on date nights or when I feel like being a little fancier. I bought several different brands of bras and some I didn’t like very much and some I loved. I figured I’d share with you the bras I ended up loving the most and are currently wearing. This is not sponsored and I don’t get anything for you purchasing but I included the links where you can get them incase you want to try them for yourself. For reference I am 5’4″ 125 pounds and wear a size small in all of these bras. I have 375cc Natrelle Inspira Cohesive implants placed under the muscle.
The Everyday Bra
These bras are hands down my favorite and the ones I wear on the daily. I first saw them advertised on Instagram but just scrolled past numerous times. I finally gave in and decided to try them out. I ordered the True & Co. True Body Lift Mesh Racerback Bra and the True Body Triangle Convertible Strap Bra. I instantly loved how lightweight and soft they were when I pulled them out of the package. The fabric is seamless and buttery smooth and the cups are removable via small slits on the inside sides. There are no clasps so they are pull over bras but the fabric is so stretchy it’s a breeze. One of them has mesh on the back and sides and I love that feature because it keeps me cool when I’m getting hot flashes. A couple months later I saw them go on sale so I ordered two more styles; True Body Lift V Neck Racerback and the True Body Lift Mesh Racerback. I noticed the racerbacks have a longer line to them and I have a short torso so sometimes the bottom rolls up a bit but I just adjust it when I have to. They have lots of styles and I’m excited to try more! Tip: I don’t recommend drying these in the dryer, I hang them up to dry and they dry super quickly.

The Lounge Bra
If I’m not in one of the True Body bras I am usually in one of these bralettes. I purchased a handful of these probably 4 years ago and would wear them with a low cut tank top for a little added detail on my days off. They are soft, comfortable and free from metal-no underwires or clasps. These bras have removable pads and adjustable straps. These are the bras I wore shortly after my breast surgeries as they weren’t too tight and gave me just the right amount of support for my tender foobs. I wear them under tee shirts, tank tops, when I’m lounging around the house and even to sleep in. They come in a large array of colors which make them fun. I have the basic colors black, white, and grey. I ordered them directly from the company which has since converted to wholesale sales only so you have to purchase them through a retailer now. I did find end up finding them on Amazon.

The Sexy Bra
When it’s time for a night out with the hubby this bra is my new go to. It’s sweet and sexy and resembles lingerie. I purchased it from AnaOno and is called the Susan Sexy Lace Bra. It has removable triangle shaped pads, a back metal clasp closure and a beautiful lace overlay. The straps are wider than average and they sit nicely on the shoulders without digging in. I discovered AnaOno through social media and immediately knew I had to try out their bras because the company is run by a breast cancer survivor. She creates undergarments designed specifically for women affected by breast cancer and those who have undergone breast surgeries. This bra has a wrap style front and the delicate lace softly squeezes the foobs together.

The Sports Bra
When exercising before my mastectomy I’d wear the basic pull over stretchy sports bras. I wore a 34B cup size so I wasn’t necessarily large chested and didn’t think too much about the support aspect. Post mastectomy I was so nervous to resume my workouts because I was scared of what would happen if I jumped around with my new expanders. I still wasn’t completely used to them yet and was worried it was going to be painful. I tried a couple of my old sports bras but found I couldn’t comfortably do cardio moves as my chest was still tender and sore and the bras didn’t support the foobs much. Around that same time I entered a contest to win a SheFit Ultimate Sports Bra through Allyn Rose the founder of The Previvor. She raved about how amazing they were but the price tag was steeper than I had ever paid for a sports bra before so I held off. Luckily, I ended up winning a free Ultimate Sports Bra through a giveaway on Allyn’s instagram page! After receiving and trying out my new sports bra I knew I’d never go back to a regular sports bra again. It has pads that are removable and a zip front closure with 2 clasps which is key post mastectomy. When I put it on and tried my cardio workout I was shocked at how little the foobs moved. They stayed tightly kept in the bra and it didn’t hurt to jump around. This bra is hands down the most supportive and structured that I’ve ever worn. I since have purchased more and I use them for my days of intense cardio workouts. They come in black, white and fun limited edition colors.
